Oh yea, by offhand is dual spirit, and that’s what I charge up my fade and shadow master with. I charge cobra and phoenix, then unload a finisher, then next attack charge the other 3. I also put one in Shadow Master just to have another draw for aggro, but if I could find a claw with it i would just use that to save a couple of skills. Dump the rest of the skills as you level into Fade for resist and damage reduction.

One in each finisher but just use dragon talon for the main attack and dragon flight to teleport to the next group. Skills are maxed Phoenix, Blades of Ice, Claws of Thunder, and Tiger Strike. I have since got a Shako, skullders, anni charm, and some +MA gloves, and really don’t notice that much of a difference. Treachery armor, lore helm, +1 assassin skill amu, two junk rings (mana heal and a yellow with life leach) some IAS gloves, Hsaru’s boots and belt, and two 3os greater talons with no extra skills of note. It’s not a “hold down one button” build like a frenzy barb, but it’s really fun. It’s not really micromanaged, just building up a skill or two at a time and unleashing the power of the build. Update 1: Also, how effective are shields? Is it worth it for anyone besides a paladin to carry one? Are they build dependent? If so, how effective would said build be?

My questions is….how can I balance the need for both single target and aoe effectiveness? Is there a build I should look to? Perhaps mercenaries are supposed to augment one of those builds to be effective at both? Maybe one with an aura? With the Frenzy and Zealot builds, I feel like I would be VERY ineffective at dealing with large groups of mobs, while with the Whirlwind and Hammerdin, I would be VERY in effective at dealing with bosses or tough single target encounters in general. The selection seems a little off putting. I’ve looked at what skills I’ll be using and I’ve gotta say. I’ve looked at the Frenzy Barbarian, Whirlwind Barbarian, Zealot Paladin, and the Hammerdin. So I’ve looked at some builds for the Barbarian and Paladin. Such as casting a healing spell in Elder Scrolls, reinforcing my weapon with fire in Dark Souls, or shooting away at an enemy trapped in a Web spell in Baldur’s Gate, while my primary method of dealing with combat is hacking and slashing away with my sword, axe, etc).

I’ve determined that I want to be a melee class since I like hacking and slashing away at my enemies rather than casting fireballs or shooting at them with arrows (I’m ok with shooting arrows or casting spells in RPGs, but they’re more of a…….supplement so to speak. I do plan on trying to run through all difficulties. I’ve been researching builds, trying to determine what will be effective.
